CENTRAL STUDENT STUDYING IN MALAYSIA UNDER KILA HAODA SCHOLARSHIP SPEAKS OUT – BETTY UME.

As a recipient of the Governor Hoada Scholarship i would like to bring to light a few issues you the Central people of PNG deserve to know before voting.

While I commend the Governors initiative in creating this avenue for studies for the children of Central province. There are a lot of challenges we the students are facing out here.

Issues we have tried to sort out with the scholarship board to no avail.

Firstly the chain of communication is ineffective. There are 3 separate entities involved in this scholarship. The CPG, Seri Stamford College and Illimo Sattelite town development.

The level of communication between this 3 entities is not known to us the students but from the answers we get when enquiring about issues such as our allowance it is clear to see that each entity does not know what the other is up to.

I feel it is my duty to warn students who want to apply to come out here. The course you want to take is not guranteed. You will come out here and take what the college sees you fit to take. Your allowance is not guranteed. As far as accomodation goes you might end up in unsatisfactory quarters.

Speaking on behalf of many disgruntled students who feel abandoned by their government.

  2. In our days we were not exposed to such luxury in education. Please children and parents check out these schemes deeply and critically before engagement. My heart goes out to you Betty and your parents. I am deeply hurt by what you are saying. When this scheme first came out, I had the very same thoughts about everything that might go wrong. Now you are the first to speak out. This scheme is not sustainable. All the frame work is not in place. Review it and set up a proper framework and infrastructure

  3. Appreciate your great concern Betty for bring this out clear to your colleges and for all central parents and students intending for this sort of scholarships in future to consider the terms and conditions before you even put the pen on the paper and blindly make up your mind.
The scholarships committee must read this and consider all this before even going into an agreement in future which will bring noting but burden to the parents of this poor students and try to praise themselves.

Just my thought for the intending students and the scholarships committee to take into consideration and hope for a better government for the better of Central Province.
